Approach

Look for the fundamentals, not the consequences. Then make it real.

Waste, noise, a bad fit: most problems are the consequence of an earlier choice. I trace them back to where they start, then design something a factory can actually make.

Question the habitI question old habits and new trends alike, so I fix the cause and not the symptom.
Less, but betterIn a product or in a mix: clear the space, so the one thing that matters stands out.
Built to be madeSpecified for real processes: industrial looms, factory tech packs, print templates.

About

Portrait of Jordan Groskamp
Jordan GroskampFrankfurt / Amsterdam

Dutch apparel designer working in colour, materials and textiles. At Braun I design the things in your home with a plug, from first brief to mass production. At TU Delft I designed jeans that are woven to shape on an industrial Jacquard loom.

I like the projects everyone had written off as solved. I start with the habits nobody questions, so I fix the real problem and not its symptoms. An idea is right when it takes the spotlight when it’s needed, without screaming for attention. In a team I’m the connector and the one with the sharp questions; once it clicks, I lock in and build.

At Braun I’m the design owner on multiple projects across garment care and household appliances, refined through countless 3D prints and tests with real people. That work stays under NDA until launch, so this site shows my own work outside Braun. The denim took me into weaving, a field that was new to me, and from a thesis concept to a mill in Pakistan and a panel at Kingpins Amsterdam. Next, I want to design apparel where material and construction lead.

I also produce electronic music, with label releases. Carving out space in a mix is the same work as cutting a design back to what matters, and sometimes empty space lifts something simple to new heights. At parties like Verknipt, Free Your Mind, Mystic Garden and 909 I’m the artist handler: the guy in the fast car picking up your favourite artist for their Dutch gig, sharing ideas on the way. Working in English for over five years and travelling taught me that my view doesn’t always apply. The US doesn’t work like China, and neither works like Europe. That’s what keeps it interesting.
